Homeopathic Treatments for Bronchitis

Bronchitis is a condition that occurs when the mucous membranes that line the upper breathing tubes become inflamed. It is often the result of a viral illness such as cold or flu an can last for several weeks. Other factors contributing to the developement of bronchitis include heavy smoking, allergies, and prolonged exposure to polluted air. Bronchitis can become chronic (i.e. of long duration) if an individual suffers multiple instances of the disease that are not well cared for.

While homeopathic remedies can provide relief from bronchial discomfort as well as help with fighting infection, people with serious and/or prolonged cases of bronchitis are well advised to consult a physician. Some homeopathic treatments that have been shown to provide relief to people with bronchitis include the following:

Antimonium tartaricum is prepared by combining potassium tart rate with oxide of antimony, which is form by the reaction of moist air and antimony. Use of this remedy is indicated when the patient has a "wet" cough (feeling of mucous in the chest) and their breathing makes a bubbly, rattling sound. The cough requires effort and may not be strong enough to bring up the mucous.

Byronia, also known as will hops or black bryony, is a creeping vine that is commonly found along hedgerows and forests across southern Europe. This remedy should be used for  painful "dry" coughs, that can also cause stomach upset.

Calcarea carbonica is used for bronchitis that immediately follows a cold and is made from the middle layers of shells. It is especialyy effective in treating bronchial coughs that are accompanied by fever and/or sweating and chills.

Causticum is a potassium compound first developed by Samuel Hahnemann in the early 19th century. It is used when the bronchitis is accompanied by a deep racking cough and feeling of mucous being trapped in the upper chest. A feeling of rawness or soreness in the throat may develop along with alternating bouts of chills and fever.

Hepar sulphuris calcareum is derived from calcium sulfide and is used for coughs that are hoarse and rattling accompanied by the bringing up of yellowy mucous. The patient is extremely sensitive to cold with even the slightest draft resulting in severe chills and may also feel exceptionally vulnerable both physically and emotionally as a result.

Silicea or Silica is made from flint. When someone has been suffering a prolonged bout of bronchitis lasting for weeks at a time or perhaps the whole winter, homeopaths may recommend this treatment. Coughing, in addition to bringing up mucous may also result in back pain, and the patient may also experience chills (as opposed to heat) during fever episodes and night sweats.

Sulphur's use may be indicated when a patient has suffered repeated bouts of bronchitis. In some cases their resistance may have been lowered by prior overuse of  antibiotics for minor ailments.

Homeopathic physicians typically recommend the following procedure when deciding on an appropriate remedy.  Take one dose and wait for a response. If there is visible improvement, keep waiting and let the remedy work, however If improvement lags significantly or has clearly stopped, then try another dose.

The dosage frequency will vary with the actual condition and the individual. If no response is seen within a reasonable amount of time, then select a different remedy.

Homeopathy & Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy, in its general sense, refers to the treatment of disease by chemicals that kill cells, specifically those of micro-organisms or cancer. Chemotherapy acts by killing cells that divide rapidly (one of the chief properties of cancer cells, hence its use as part of cancer treatments). This means that it also harms cells that divide rapidly under normal circumstances: cells in the bone marrow, digestive tract and hair follicles; these results in the most common side-effects of chemotherapy–myelosuppression (decreased production of blood cells), mucositis (inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract)and hair loss.

Common Homeopathic Remedies
They are said to be over 1000 homeopathic remedies known, and 50 of which are available over-the-counter. The following remedies are considered the most commonly used today. Homeopathic Hospital
You've been searching medical facilities to find the best care for a loved one, and aren't satisfied with the treatments that are being offered at conventional hospitals. If you know a little about naturopathy, or think that homeopathic medicine may be a realistic option, you may want to find a homeopathic hospital in your area that will serve your family well. The treatments that you will receive will most likely be much more customized than in a 'regular' hospital, and this could help in disease prevention as well.

The safety of homeopathy for children
Homeopathy, an alternative form of medicine, is gaining popularity in mainstream culture, but is it safe? How safe is it? Is it safe for children? As parents, our children's health and well-being are our top priority. We want to keep them healthy and safe so that they can focus on developing other aspects of their life, like friendship and education.

Common types of eczema include Atopic eczema (which is probably the most common and linked to allergies as well as being hereditary), Contact dermatitis, Xerotic eczema (extremely dry skin often exacerbated by cold weather; very prevalent among the elderly) and Seborrhoeic dermatitis (eczema of the scalp and face similar to dandruff).
